Thirteen-year-old Dylan Redwine went missing in November 2012, a day after he arrived in La Plata County to visit his father, Mark Redwine, in Vallecito, about 25 miles northeast of Durango, as part of a court-ordered visit. Dylan Redwine’s partial remains were found up on Middle Mountain Road, approximately 10 miles north from his father’s home on June 2013. His father, Mark, was arrested in 2017 and his trial begins in October 2020 in Durango, Colorado.

Dylan Redwine's journey began on November 17, 2012 when he departed from the Denver International Airport for a 1.5 hour flight to Durango.

Dylan traveled with his dad, Mark, to town that evening for a stop at Walmart and McDonalds before heading to his rural home about 30 minutes away.

Their first stop was the Durango Walmart, where Mark bought some groceries and Dylan selected a few $5 DVD movies from the bulk bargain bin. His dad said they watched the movie "Adventureland" together that night.

It was a relatively brief visit to Walmart, according to Mark, to buy just enough things to get by for a couple of days.

After leaving Walmart, Dylan and Mark headed to McDonalds. Mark stated that "it wasn't my first choice" and that he (Mark) "wanted to go to a sit-down dinner" instead. They visited the drive-through and ate the food on the way home.

Next, Dylan and Mark drove to Mark's home, located just beyond the Vallecito Reservoir on County Road 500. It was about a 30-40 minute drive from McDonalds. Cell service between Durango and the Vallecito Dam was reportedly "spotty", but Dylan was texting his friends when he had service.

Mark's neighborhood is in an area with homes, cabins and a seasonal campground, and houses line both sides of the street. It's a beautiful forested area with tall mountains surrounding the area.

Mark's home is just off County Road 500. It's a 3 bed, 2 bath, 1512 Sq. Ft. single family home built in 1964. After Mark's arrest it was foreclosed on by the bank and recently sold to a new owner for $165,000.

Vallecito Creek runs just a few hundred yards away from Mark's house. Mark allegedly claimed that Dylan may have the house on his own to explore the bridge near his house that runs over the creek.

When Mark could not locate Dylan the next day, he went to the Bayfield Marshall's office, about a 30-minute drive from his home, to report him missing. Just after reporting him missing here, Mark texted Dylan's mom, letting her know he was missing.

Dylan's mom immediately contacted the Durango Sheriff's department to report that Dylan was missing. A search was launched and Dylan's mom began her 6-hour drive to Durango from her home in Colorado Springs.

One area focused on during the 8-month search for Dylan was Middle Mountain Road, located just a few miles from Mark's house. This gravel road provides access to steep mountain terrain and is used by hikers, hunters, campers, and snowmobilers.

The area is heavily forested and contains many cliffs and steep drop-offs, like this one. Mark was familiar with this area and had allegedly been seen in the area after Dylan was reported missing.

In June 2013, 7 months after Dylan was reported missing, his remains were found high up on Middle Mountain Road. This was the result of many extensive searches by several large search teams over several months of combing the mountainside.

Dylan's friends and family built a memorial for Dylan at the Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield. The address is 420 County Road 501,
Bayfield, CO.

Dylan's memorial bench is adorned with photos, his baseball glove, and painted rocks left behind by friends and family.

Eagle Park in Bayfield was one of Dylan's favorite places. There was an effort a few years ago to rename the park after Dylan.

The river at Eagle Park is where Dylan and his friends would spend time during the summer months.
